What is a Co-op?
What is a Co-operative
(co-op): an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise.
Co-operative Values
Co-operatives are based on the values of self-help, self responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. In the tradition of their founders, co-operative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others.
Foothills Co-op
The Foothills Co-op orders through United Natural Foods (UNFI). UNFI is our supplier. They offer a wide array of natural and organic foods, both raw and processed, usually at very good prices. If you’ve ever been to Whole Foods (formerly Wild Oats) in Lexington you will see a lot of the same items carried by UNFI. Quantities vary but are usually “cases” (4 to 12 items per case) or “bulk” (5 to 50 pounds). Part of the function of the Foothills club is to help members match “half cases” so that you don’t have to buy a whole case of something to get the good prices—though it’s always best if you can take full cases.
